Why & What Data We Collect In Our DataBases /
Our goal is to provide the best video view online for an ad and the insights of the view by analyzing content data. Every publisher bringing great stories needs to be paid. A great uninterrupted view of a video ad is great for both the advertiser and should pay well to the publisher. To make a great video view and report back that it has been seen, we collect some facts about the view. We don’t knowingly store any personal or individually identifiable private data in our databases, period.
When a spot plays, the data of the time played, total time played and interactions with the player buttons is send real time to our database. Look below for the list of data we collect with every video view. This real time data from the ad spot played and the data from the editorial content of that page in which the spot plays are analyzed in a multitude of ways. The resulting sets of insights are shared with the Publisher and the Advertiser.
Our 3rd Party Service Providers /
The video spots are served in the M3U8 streaming video format from the Amazon AWS S3 service. The Amazon AWS S3 service monitors usage of their servers and collects basic functional information like, ip address, region served, type of platforms the video is served to and some system related non personal data. To find out about the type of functional data collected by Amazon S3 service you should look up the Amazon AWS site. The video ad spots are served to readers in the Continental United States, to do that we use a third party service from ipapi.co that allows us to create a geo boundary of the US. We do not retain any data in our database that might be captured by ipapi.co. For more information on ipapi.co and their geo service, please take a look at ipapi.co . The Player Data and Content Data we collect are stored on a MySQL/MariaDB DataBase on the Amazon EC2 service. This DataBase content will also reside on other servers and services for extended analysis and archiving.
Content Data Analysis & Transparency /
The data insights will be a work in progress, our goal is to keep innovating with progressively newer mathematical and Ei functions applied to content data related to the video ad viewed, not personal data. These editorial content and ad play insights are brought to the Publisher and Advertiser on HTML Pages, made available, hopefully for their eyes only. The insight calculations will be made both on the DataBase level and on Mathematical Spreadsheets. After the end of a campaign, if requested, for 100% transparency, we will allow Advertisers access to our Amazon Video Logs and our raw DB files that relates to the campaign.
We use a version of the open source Videojs Player and a short Java Script on the Story Page where this Ad appears. The Java Script on the Story Page pulls up the Video Player and Plays the Video Ad and then disappears to let the reader read the story.
The Data Stored In Our Database /
The data points from each video view we collect are. (1) The name of the site (2) The Headline of the Story Page on which this Video Ad plays (3) The date and time the Video Ad started playing (4) How long the Video Ad played (5) The buttons the viewer clicked, there are either 2 or 3 buttons on the Video Player [Audio On, Exit, Link to the Advertiser’s Site] (5) The type of device used to view the spot, Desktop/Laptop/Mobile.
